To further engage U.S. universities in support of the ASCI program, each of the Defense Programs (DP) laboratories has established a computer science institute to attract university experts to work with laboratory staff in areas of computer science that support high performance computing. Each institute provides a central facility to support extended visits by faculty and students and to serve as a focal point for interaction with laboratory scientists. This is another way to engage young men and women whom we expect will choose careers related to simulation and the challenging science and engineering problems that directly support national security and industrial competitiveness.
