The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at The University of Texas at Austin offers the Ann Grabhorn Friday Endowed Presidential Fellowship in Middle Eastern Studies every academic year. This fellowship is intended for UT students in the MA program in Middle Eastern Studies, with preference for female students whose study focuses on the Arab world. The fellowship provides a stipend of approximately $5,000, payable in September.
To be eligible for a fellowship an applicant must:
-- Be a UT-Austin student in good standing in the Center's MA program in Middle Eastern Studies or one of its joint-degree programs with professional schools; or be accepted for regular admission to one of these programs for the upcoming fall semester;
-- Demonstrate a long-term interest in the Middle East;
-- Show potential for superior academic achievement as indicated by grade-point average, class rank, and GRE score.
Preference will be given to female applicants who have a commitment to learning Arabic and whose course work and thesis or master's report focus on the Arab world. Those who receive a FLAS fellowship will not be eligible to receive this fellowship. The award may be used for language and area study on the UT-Austin campus or in an overseas program approved by the Center.
