Data Scientists are hired into positions directly supporting a technical mission office or the Data Scientist Development Program (DSDP). The NSA/CSS Data Scientist Development Program is a three-year opportunity to build your data science talent, experience the breadth of data science at NSA through six- to nine-month assignments in a variety of diverse organizations, and collaborate with NSA’s experts in the field of data science. You will have opportunities to attend technical conferences with experts from industry and academia. You will routinely discuss and share NSA’s challenges and successes at weekly technical roundtables. The National Security Agency (NSA) Office of General Counsel (OGC) is seeking a patent attorney with experience in patent preparation and prosecution to join its Acquisition, Research and Technology practice group. The patent attorney will work with inventors to understand their inventions, to assess invention patentability, and to obtain patent protection. Responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and providing IP litigation support.

The patent attorney will work to protect Agency interests by advising Agency clients, advocate on behalf of Agency clients, and educate Agency clients concerning the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), thereby furthering the mission, goals and objectives of the Office of General Counsel or a particular Practice Group thereof. The patent attorney may also assist in the administration and oversight of patent preparation and prosecution as well as work with stakeholders to develop and consider strategic goals, vision, priorities, programs and plans.

The responsibilities of a Patent Attorney at NSA can include:

– Representing the Agency in interactions with USPTO

Grade 13 ($94,796 – $123,234): Entry is with a Professional Law Degree (LLB or JD) and in excess of 2 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience as determined by the Office of the General Counsel must be professional legal experience that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. See DoD Instruction (DoDI) 1442.02 for exceptions to the grade-level standards. Active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia is required.

Grade 14 ($112,021 – $145,629): Entry is with a Professional Law Degree (LLB or JD) and in excess of 3 years of relevant experience. Salary Range: $131,767 – $161,900 (Expert) (Grade 15)

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday.

On-the job training, Internal NSA courses, and external training will be made available based on the need and experience of the selectee.
