The professionals at the National Security Agency (NSA) have one common goal: to protect our nation. The mission requires a strong offense and a steadfast defense. The offense collects, processes and disseminates intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The defense prevents adversaries from gaining access to sensitive classified national security information. With the ever-accelerating technological advances and growing system complexity, NSA needs Technical Writers to create, edit, review and prepare for publication or presentation scientific and/or technical documents.

Description of Position

Technical Writers are hired into positions supporting a broad range of specialized skills including Computer Engineering, Computer Programming, Computer Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Communications Engineering. Some of these responsibilities may include:

– Interpreting and responding to customer requests for information, specifically intelligence.
– Writing complex documents (e.g., manuals/guides, technical specifications, test plans, project proposals, design documents, business/technical reports, speeches/scripts, legal and policy documents, historical monographs) using the appropriate format and classification.
– Editing written products documents for content, relevance of material, organization, strength of argument, clarity, persuasiveness, length, comprehensiveness, overall tone, and spelling/grammatical errors.
– Updating written products (for example, policy manuals, user guides, presentations) to ensure currency of information and proper classification.
– Developing and/or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) or instructions.
– Designing and/or creating artwork or graphics for print, electronic products, exhibits, or displays.
– Serving as a liaison between groups internal or external to the Agency.

Qualifications/Experience
Salary Range: $66,510 – $103,639 (Full Performance)

Salary offers are based on candidates’ education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position.

Entry is with a Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience. A high school diploma or GED plus 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree plus 5 years of relevant experience may be considered.

Degree in English or Journalism is preferred, although a degree in any field is acceptable.

Relevant experience must be technical writing, editing, and/or revising (e.g., instruction manuals, user guides, system manuals, white papers, design specifications) and conducting open-source research.

Salary Range: $94,796 – $145,629 (Senior)

A high school diploma or GED plus 10 years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree plus 8 years of relevant experience may be considered.

Degree in English or Journalism is preferred, although a degree in any field is acceptable.

Relevant experience must be technical writing, editing, and/or revising (e.g., instruction manuals, user guides, system manuals, white papers, design specifications) and conducting open-source research.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
On-the job training, Internal NSA courses, and external training will be made available based on the need and experience of the selectee.

Monday – Friday, with basic 8hr/day work requirements between 0600 and 1800 (flexible).
